Cruise to the Bahamas

My wife and I just returned from a very relaxing cruise on the Norwegian Jewel. We left the cold, gloomy February weather in New York City, traveled through beautiful and eerie sea smoke, had lunch with my in-laws in Cocoa Beach, took in the perfect weather of the Bahamas, and experienced the incredible maritime exhibition at the Atlantis Resort in Nassau.

Like our last cruise in May, I was armed with my Leica M9, but added my new iPhone 4S into the arsenal. To make it even better, I was armed with the very cool olloclip lens to add a little more ‘oomph’ to my pictures.

All my photos from this trip can be viewed here on Flickr.

  1. beauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuutiful pictures!!!!

if you ever get the chance to, try to visit the non resorty islands of the bahamas. We were there for a wedding just this past november and stayed at lubbers cove (or cay? i can’t remember the name) and it was amazing!

  2. Nice pics……….I’m loving that you loved the Bahamas, my beautiful home……….hope you visit again and check out more of our 700 islands and cays……….blessings!………Kim

  3. I like that ocean shot you got. you were lucky the fog was out there that day huh? It’s hard to find photos like that online. I should know cause i look all the time. You might be able to make money with that one but you probably already know that since your a photographer right -,o

  4. Wow, some awesome shots! I love the pictures of the water with the spray or “smoke” as you called it. The one in the elevator with the iPhone is great too! I recently took a cruise with my wife to the Bahamas for 4 days as well. Beautiful down there.

  6. You have taken some amazing shots, absolutely love every pic you have taken… Bahamas is like the other side of the world for me living in Aussie every beautiful state/country is far away from Aussie.. You should come to down under you will absolutely love some places we have!! :)

  7. Sea smoke and olloclips! Had no idea I’ve been missing so much!!

Have you played around with infrared any? I do quite a lot of that…have had one of my cameras converted…have quite a few images on my site (under the ‘infrared’ category) – if you get a chance – drop by sometime!
    Thanks for sharing!!
    Enjoyed it very much!

Oh My, I love oceans and always wanted to go for a cruise and sail on a big ship, unfortunately my other half is never keen on the idea. I am enjoying your breathtaking photos. Thank you and keep us posted. Thank you for sharing.

  9. Wow! Great photos! I’ve always wanted to visit Bahamas. It’s in my bucket list. I wanna have my second honeymoon there. Hopefully next year after I finish exploring Philippines. We have great beaches here, too!

  10. love your photos.. had the chance too of sailing from Brazil to Italy and the feeling is great since it was summer and the sea is calm… really enjoyed taking photos, meeting new people, knowing other culture, enjoying the view… congrats on being FP.

  11. I like that first sea smoke photo a lot. I would love to go to the Bahamas although I am not sure I would enjoy a cruise but maybe I will try it out someday. The only cruise I have been on was a schooner cruise when I was 17 around the San Juan Islands in Washington. The passengers got to be the crew. It was amazing! I wish I had had a camera at the time.

  12. Those are some really great pictures. I recently went on a cruise to the Bahamas myself (with Carnival, pre-accident) and had a blast! The weather was great and the ship was so much fun. Love that towel animal (elephant?) you got yourself there. Those are the best.

  14. Awesome post! Crusies are awesome, that is, if your cruise isn’t going to Mexico when “swine flu” decides to blow(my experience). Although the crusie was only a few days, it was more than enough. The endless food really starts to take a toll on your eating habits. I pretty much snacked all day! ha

If anybody’s interested, I’m taking on a journey to achieve 6 pack abs. Any support/feedback would be greatly appreciated!

  15. I really like your photography. I feel like I was there on the cruise ship myself. :)

All my life I’ve wanted to take a cruise, and I will someday, even if it means me sneaking onto one without anyone noticing (which won’t happen knowing my luck :p).

I hope you had a magical cruise, and post some more photography soon!

  16. Really cool pics of the “sea mist” rising from the ocean. I didn’t get that on my cruise from Texas to Mexico. My great memory of that cruise is standing on the bow, spotting the flying fish which were disturbed by the ship, jumping out of the water and flying 100 yards away to escape, then diving back into the water. I wish I had a photo or video of that. Do you have any more pics of the Atlantis resort? I want to go there someday.

  17. Interesting photos, but the ones you selected here don’t exemplify that beauty of the Bahamas, unless you had bad weather the entire time. Also, there’s a little too much editing for my taste. The colors are unnatural. I wonder what they look like in their original state.

    • Hi, thank you for your comment. When I normally take cruises, I’m actually more fascinated with the actual voyage and “cruise culture”… the boat (especially in the early hours when everyone is mostly asleep), the crew, the other travelers… the actual destination is more of a side note for us, especially when you have limited time in a given port. The Bahamas are absolutely beautiful. We had perfect, warm weather when we were there and took full advantage of the beaches. For myself, if I really wanted to document the island to it’s full extent, I would need to be there for several days. We were having such a good time, sometimes you just have to put the camera away. I became more interested in shooting the gloomier side as we left NYC in cold, cloudy weather. I thought that was a great contrast to the sunniness of what we were going to. As for the editing, I can totally jive with that!

  18. Great photos, especially the one of the shark. But I agree with graciehart1 about the colors. Not necessarily “unnatural” but maybe a little “cold”. The photos ARE good though.

  19. WOW! I Love all of those Photos. I am an aspiring Photographer and these are some of the best I have ever seen! Plus, they are taken in one if my Favorite Places…. on an NCL Cruise!

  20. Was that the carnival cruise? I went one summer and was always so excited to go back to the room and see what animal they made with the towel!
